Tobi and the Real Akatsuki Leader
The Naruto fans are not only confused whether who the real leader of the Akatsuki is, but they are also confused whether the one whom Pein (the acting leader of the Akatsuki) meet is Tobi.
Tobi?s face is shown below-left while the highest rank in the Akatsuki organization is shown on the image below-right.
The only difference with them is that Tobi?s hair is exposed while that of the real leader of the Akatsuki is covered. They both wear masks that expose only their right eye.
However, I am not convinced that Tobi and the real leader of the Akatsuki are one because during the conversation of the Akatsuki members, they said that Tobi died along with Diedara and that Tobi?s power is not really that strong.
And one thing to note is, Itachi didn?t notice a Sharingan eye of Tobi. Remember that Sharingan eyes are more red color than the normal eyes and the eyes has dots near its lens. The number of dots signifies its Sharingan level.
But we can?t be sure of it until the episode that will reveal the Sharingan leader?s true identity.

this makes a lot of sense. thanks. but during Diedara – Sasuke fight, Tobi’s remains were not found. This could be possibly another point where the story can have a new twist. It is also possible that the Tobi who went along with Diedara is just a clone. See that the leader can make exact clones?
And you’re correct, the leader is not yet revealed until it is revealed.
Tobi is the true leader of Akatsuki because when minato talked to naruto when he was dreeaming while fighting pain he told naruto that tobi is who controles pain and he is the true leader of Akatsuki who wanted to resummon the nine tailed demon
I have some suspicions about Tobi. I find it interesting that he only ever shows his right eye and that he’s got the sharingan. I’m probably thinking too in depth about this, but what if Tobi is actually Obito, Kakashi’s best friend from whom he got his sharingan left eye? After all, he’s got black, spiky hair and a somewhat goofy personality, and just because someone’s supposed to be dead doesn’t mean they can’t come back.
There’s no way Tobi be the leader.

I think Tobi is Saying that Pein is the leader and if he fails then he loses respect from the other members.

Hm…There is a way for Tobi to be the Leader…Because NO ONE knows yet what Tobi’s powers are…He could actually be strong and we wouldn’t even know it. Most people say he “could be” an uchiha weeell it woulld make a good twist if he “is” really and uchiha but we don’t know. I have 5 things to say and I’ll list them for everyone to see!

Hahaha- u guys r nutz… I know that tobi is Kakashi’s old friend. This just in, get your F*&#)$* facts straight. Also, Pien is somewhat the leader in the fact that there is more than one leader. Tobi is the real… not to be a smartazz but “man behind the mask” whereas Pein is a figurehead, like in politics, who keeps one group together and leads them. He still has advisors and so forth. You can tell this by that guy that Naruto blew up with the wind rasengan- how he controlled all the funds. This, I think, symbolises democracy in the Akatsuki??!!! WOW!?!

Well, I can sympathize with your theory, but it has also been said, by him, that he is, in fact, Madara. I myself thought that Tobi was Obito, until a person gave me the link to the episode in which he said that he was Madara. Madara is waaaaay older than Obito had been when he died in the cave after he told Kakashi to take Ren to safety when he was crushed.

My Theory:
Orochimaru was a member of the ataksuki at the time that Madara joined, correct?
Madara was old. . .like. . .ridiculously old, right?
So Oroichimaru transfered Madara’s body into Obito’s corpse after bringing it to life (Thus the bolts in Tobi)
Seeing how Madara could not risk using his old name, or Obito’s old face, he used the mask and switched his name, thus becoming Tobi

To make sense, You can’t be a member of akatsuki if you are not famous. See Orochimaru & Itachi . . . Orichimaru is a genius sanin and the one who killed the 3rd hokage & Itachi was known who killed all the uchiha clan. Why Tobi did easily joined in the akasuki? It’s simple, to make have sense. Maybe Tobi is a famous ninja. I have tought that that the real identity of Tobi is Obito. Look, the name was sound similar. To make sense, Why is his mask has a hole in the left side? Since Obito had 1 eye left when he give his right eye to kakashi. But it doesn’t mean he had still his left eye sharingan, In the episode, Obito’s half body was covered by large rock, we may conclude that his left eye was broke. The real leader of the akatsuki is Uchiha Madara. He may be the one who kill the real Tobi, in order to join and disguise in the akatsuki even though he is the leader. Maybe he has some purpose. It’s impossible that why Uchiha Madara was still alive? Madara might knows the reincarnation technique like orochimaru’s technique. we don’t know what did happen during the battle of the 1st hokage and Uchiha Madara, it says that the hokage killed the Madara.
