Since 2003, I was already wondering how come Orochimaru, Tsunade and Jiraiya became the Konoha’s Sannin. I was thinking of different reasons for this:

1. The three passed a Sannin examination organized by the Third Hokage.
2. The three possessed qualities that are stronger than the qualities of the Special Juunin like Kakashi and Gai, but are weaker compared to that of the Hokage.
3. The three are well-known for their abilities.

I thought, the question about being Sannin of the three will not be answered by the Naruto story. And I am thankful because the Naruto Manga episode 369 which was released last week contains information about it.

So, how did they become Sannin?

According to the memory of Jiraiya, it was Salamander Hanzou, the Amagakure’s leader, who first called them Sannin during the battle of Konoha against Amagakure.
